Open to everyone.
For more than 150 years, these doors have opened on Griswold Road, welcoming couples exchanging vows, families gathering to remember, Sunday worship, and evenings full of music. Whoever you are and whatever the occasion, there's room for you. You are welcome here.
A Wethersfield gem since 1872
The chapel's story began with a practical need: Griswoldville families wanted a place for worship and Sunday school closer to home. The trip to the churches in Old Wethersfield was long, so the neighborhood decided to build a chapel of its own. It was a true community effort: men dug the foundation, hauled stones from Cromwell by oxen, and brought in the timbers, while women sold butter and eggs to fund the work. When the chapel was complete, Griswoldville had a home for worship, Sunday school, and community life.
In the years since, the chapel has served as a library, a meeting hall for the volunteer fire department, the home of the Winding Brook 4-H Club, and a setting for suppers, Christmas services, and neighborhood gatherings.
Today, listed on the Connecticut State Register of Historic Places, the chapel continues to welcome Wethersfield for worship, music, and weddings. It remains what it has always been: a place for people to come together.

Rooted in history
Ways to be part of it
Run by neighbors, for neighbors. Follow along, lend a hand, or make a gift. The chapel is better for it.
Lend a hand
There's always something useful to do: on the grounds, in the building, at our suppers and events. Even an hour or two goes a long way.
Keep the doors open
The chapel runs entirely on the generosity of its community. There is no endowment, no parent institution. Every dollar goes directly to the building and what happens inside it. Every gift helps.
